Caffè Latte: The Breakfast DrinkThere is nothing better than waking up in the morning to the smell of hot latte. Many of us drink latte coffee in the course of the day. We drink it at breakfast, lunch and during work.

Latte is popular around the world, but it originated in Italy, where it is called Caffè Latte (coffee and milk). In America everyone understands the word “latte” and its meaning.

But if you ever go to Italy and order a cup of latte, the waiter will bring a cup of hot milk. Don’t get surprised, because that’s what “latte” means in Italian. Latte in Italy is almost always homemade and not foamed. People drink it at breakfast only.

A lot of people confuse Caffè Latte with Latte Macchiato. They are different drinks. In a Latte Macchiato, espresso is added to milk (it’s the reverse with Caffè Latte). The difference may sound a little funny, but this makes the taste change. The most popular flavors of Caffè Latte are vanilla, chocolate and caramel.

The classic and most common way of serving latte coffee is in a glass on a saucer. A napkin, placed under the glass, is used to hold the glass if it is hot.

In Europe, especially in Scandinavia, Caffè Latte is served in a bowl and is called Café au Lait.

Some cafés hosted the tradition to serve ghetto latte or bootleg lattes, because of relatively high prices. Customers order espresso and mix it with the milk themselves (the milk is given free of charge at the condiments bar).

It’s simply coffee, but in some people’s life latte coffee is a part of their agenda. They enjoy the magic of rich and yummy taste of latte.
