Good news for Urban fantasy lovers! The Chess Putnam series by Stacia Kane, including “Unholy Ghosts,” “Unholy Magic” and “City of Ghosts,” will be released in summer of 2010 by Del Rey Publishing.
Lately classical High fantasy genre seems to give way to rather new Urban fantasy, and the city with its inner problems seems to become more popular among modern readers then our beloved elves and dwarfs of beautiful imaginary worlds.
Urban fantasy usually shows the everyday problems of a city, and, even if it’s an imaginary city, its inner problems seem familiar to every modern reader. And… have you ever seen fantasy without mystic and supernatural elements? I don’t think so. So the fantasy lovers become the witnesses of interesting adventures, the rise of supernatural powers and fights against evil forces in the familiar environment of the modern city.
Chess Putnam series are a bright example of Urban fantasy novels. Darkness, punk rock, drugs and black magic. Rising dead and living creatures in danger. Chess Putnam, a witch with tattoos and a drug addiction, can help the Church to deal with the dead and bring peace to the city. Of course, she has a number of her own problems that also must be dealt with.
Stacia Kane’s first book in urban fantasy genre, “Personal Demons,” was thought to be one of the best fiction books of 2008 and later became the first book in Megan Chase series which were followed by “Demon Inside” and “Demon Possessed” (to be released in 2010).
